Two Upper Canada College debaters turned in excellent performances at international tournaments over the summer.
IB1 student Alnur Kassim-Lakha competed in two tournaments in the Czech Republic. He made it to the final and placed second along with his partner in the first tournament, where they competed against a team of older students from the University of Stockholm. Kassim-Lakha faced stiff competition in the next tournament but made it to the quarter-finals and placed 12th individually.
IB2 student Elliot Kaufman was selected to represent Team Canada at the Pan-American Schools Debate Tournament in Hamilton, Bermuda in July. He finished fourth individually, while his Canada East team lost in the final. Kaufman’s strong performance earned him an invitation to be part of the five-member Canadian team at the World Schools Debating Championship in Thailand next August.
