A team of Upper Canada College Old Boys set out to defend its title in the Canadian Association of New Yorkers Hockey in Harlem Tournament on the weekend after claiming the championship in its first two years of entry.
Mother Nature got the best of the tournament on Friday night, as New York received so much snow and then rain that the rinks in Central Park weren’t in any condition to be skated on and all of the games were cancelled. Ice crews were able to repair things on Saturday and UCC was able to play a mini-tournament on Sunday.
The team won its first two games by scores of 7-1 and 3-1, but lost steam in the final and came out on the wrong end of a 7-1 decision. That didn’t stop the guys from celebrating, however, as 45 Old Boys and friends gathered at Tacombi in Soho (owned by Dario Walos ’96) on Sunday evening.
The Old Boy team was comprised of John Thorp ’05, Hudson Sullivan ’04, Greg Lowman ’04, Jeff Taylor ’04, Ryan Taylor ’00, Pat Taylor, Brett Moffat ’03, Ryan Adams ’05, Andrew Reburn ’06, Gord Cheesbrough ’01 and Yu Tanebe ’05.
