Upper Canada College’s new-look Prep playground won’t just offer hours of fun for students to play in, it will provide a snapshot of what goes through young boys’ minds for future generations.
A time capsule full of items collected by Senior Kindergarten students was placed in the ground on Wednesday, May 6, after Primary Division head Tom Babits suggested it to SK teachers Pina Porto and Christine Cochrane last month.
“To begin we talked with the boys about what a time capsule is and why we were putting one together,” explained Porto. “They were super excited.”
The boys were invited to go around the classroom and collect items that they would want to remember from SK, and they came up with Lego pieces, toys, markers, crayons and a block.
“I was impressed about the things they chose, as they seemed to be carefully chosen,” said Porto.
Each boy then took a selfie photo which was put in the time capsule along with a written submission on: his favourite thing to do in SK; advice for future SK students; and what he wants to be when he grows up.
The final additions to the time capsule were a DVD of the boys singing French songs and a class photo.
