Upper Canada College’s U12A basketball team went undefeated through six games to win the UCC Invitational Tournament Championship on Jan. 8 and 9.
The boys used their home court advantage to win three divisional round robin games by an average margin of 37 points. The team opened the tournament on Friday with a 48-11 victory over St. Andrew’s College, followed by a 50-14 win over Eglinton Public School and a 48-11 vanquishing of Lower Canada College.
The Blues won their semi-final game 35-15 on Saturday morning to qualify for the final that afternoon against The Priory School Panthers from Montreal. In front of a large group of supporters at the Hewitt Athletic Complex, the team struggled early on and trailed by a point at halftime. The momentum swung in a big way in the second half, however, and the team claimed the championship with a 30-16 victory.
UCC’s U12B team also took part in the tournament.
