Upper Canada College’s varsity cricket team won its second consecutive Conference of Independent Schools of Ontario Athletic Association (CISAA) championship and did so by going undefeated for the second straight year.
After enduring a nine-year drought, the team secured its second successive CISAA title with a game to spare on May 15 after a comfortable 152-98 victory at Trinity College School (TCS) on May 25
The Blues hosted TCS in the final game of the season two days later and came away with a 135-82 win that extended its run of CISAA victories to eight and kept its undefeated streak going for a second year.
The team is coached by Mark Baxter and Premek Hamr and it should remain in solid contention for another championship next year as captain Shahmu Lodhi and Calvin Bouchard are the only players who’ve graduated from UCC. Eleven players from the 2016 team, including vice-captains Joshua van Marken and Faiz Khwaja, are eligible to return to defend the title in 2017.
