The top six U14 tennis teams in the Conference of Independent Schools Athletics Association converged on Upper Canada College’s courts on May 25 for the championship tournament and, at the end of the day, the two squads with home court advantage ended up on top.
UCC’s Grade 8 team finished atop the leader board with 94 points out of a possible 100 from singles and doubles matches. It was followed in second place by the school’s Grade 7 team, coached by David Ma, with 82. Toronto French Schools captured the bronze medal after amassing 74 points.
“All the boys showed great heart and determination on the court,” says UCC Grade 8 coach Rob Scatozza. “Solid team play was the key to success — with 23 out of 25 matches won — and all the credit goes out to the boys for representing themselves and the school in a very professional, respectful and sportsmanlike manner.”
