The UCC community celebrated the official installation of our 19th principal Sam McKinney on Oct. 19. Those attending the ceremony in Laidlaw Hall included: former principals Doug Blakey and Richard Sadlier; and McKinney family members including wife Rosey, sons Jack ’17, Connor ’19 and Charlie ’20, sister Kathryn and dad Charlie. In his remarks, Sam McKinney spoke of how education is above all else a “human profession,” of the need to be “genuine and authentic” and to always be mindful that we “teach boys not subjects.”
It was a nice touch that various community members gave short speeches and offered useful gifts for McKinney’s term at the College. Parents organization chairs Jody Howe and Lori Elder offered a guest book for the McKinney family residence, Grant House. Board member Loewe Lee ’99 gave a Scadding’s tie and head steward Sevion DaCosta ’17 proffered UCC toques and mittens for the sons. Prep librarian Pam Love and Upper School history teacher Fiona Marshall gave family passes to Toronto attractions.
