The UCC Foundation’s annual general meeting was held on Nov. 23, where Richard Wernham, Vik Rao ’88 and Doug Guzman were thanked for their contributions.
Wernham, the father of Nick Wernham ’02, has been a UCC Foundation board member since 2008 and finished his final term. He’s been a UCC Foundation investment committee member and served as chair of the investment committee from 2009 to 2013. The Richard Wernham and Julia West Centre for Learning is named after him and his wife.
Rao is a partner with Talus Capital Corporation and the father of Jordan Rao ’16, who now attends the University of California, Los Angeles. Rao is stepping down since he’s moving to L.A. with the rest of his family. He joined the UCC Foundation board in 2014.
Guzman, whose son Davis will graduate from UCC next year, is Group Head Wealth Management and Insurance at RBC. He’s also stepping down after joining the UCC Foundation board in 2013.
The Foundation Board of Trustees has also approved the amalgamation of the Board and the investment committee. As a result, Matthew Farb ’96, Elliot Johnson ’94 and Tim Price, who have served on the investment committee, were elected to the Board
Farb, an investment committee member since 2006, is president and chief investment officer of Better Capital Corporation, which he founded last year. He’s also served as president and CIO of Coldstream Capital Management Inc. and president of East West Investment Management Corporation.
Johnson, an investment committee member since 2011, is senior vice-president of product development and management at Fiera Capital. He was previously a partner and chief operating officer of Fiera Quantum Limited Partnership and served senior roles with National Bank of Canada and GMP Investment Management.
Price, the father of Robert Price ’93 and Matthew Price ’01, has been an investment committee member since 2008. He’s chairman of Brookfield Funds, which is part of Brookfield Asset Management Inc. Price is also a member of the board of directors of Canadian Tire Corporation Limited and Fairfax Financial Holdings and serves on the boards of the Ontario Arts Foundation, St. Michael’s Hospital Foundation and Shaw Festival as well as the dean’s advisory board at the Schulich School of Business.
