Upper Canada College Grade 7 student Kevin Liu won a gold medal at the Toronto Regional Science Fair and has qualified to travel to Regina, Sask. next month to participate in the Canada Wide Science Fair as a member of Team Toronto.
Liu also received the Water Environment Association of Ontario Award for “demonstrating exceptional research, knowledge and scientific thought on a water environmental related topic.” His project placed him among the top 10 students and qualified him for the national fair.
Seven Prep and two Upper School boys from UCC took part in the contest alongside 576 students from all over Toronto at the April 1 fair at the University of Toronto’s Scarborough campus. They presented their projects to judges, special judges and the general public.
UCC Grade 7 students Joey Katz and Oliver Tattersall also received gold medals.
Grade 7 student Vanaan Murugathas won a silver medal and also received the UTSC Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences Award for having the best project in chemistry, environmental science and physics.
Grade 7 student Ryan Chan, Grade 8 student Nathan Hannam and Grade 11 student Ambrose Chan earned bronze medals.
