Dear UCC Community,
It’s been a busy winter at UCC with our campus full of activity. Highlights for me included participating in my first official Winterfest, introducing our new mascot “Ice”, and enjoying the Prep and Upper School theatre productions. I was proud to see our boys host the World Affairs Conference, qualify for the national debating championships, and celebrate many sports victories. Their enthusiasm is impressive and they have earned a well-deserved break!
As the College pauses for March Break, I want to update you on the development of our new strategic directions. To support our commitment to being collaborative and transparent, we hosted our first Old Boy Summit this past fall. More than 120 Old Boys participated in three sessions: the College’s Long-Term Financial Model, UCC’s Financial Assistance Program, and Old Boy Engagement with College Life. Panelists spoke candidly and facilitated lively and productive discussions. We’ve put together an informative report to the community, and I encourage you to read it here.
We also consulted with a wide range of community members including many parents and families. Their feedback contributed to a broader analysis summarizing the College’s strengths and areas for growth. In addition, UCC’s faculty and staff formed Discovery Teams to explore topics such as trends in education, inclusiveness and diversity, and well-being. The exercise reflected our faculty and staff’s enthusiasm for delivering the very best academic and co-curricular experiences.
Our Board of Governors and Senior Leadership are currently refining a renewed vision, mission and values for the College. This work will provide focus for the final phases of the development of our new strategic directions.
Further to our work on UCC’s new strategic directions, and following a period of consideration, the College will now formalize our candidacy status on our journey to become an approved MYP provider.
Thank you for your participation and support as we build our preferred future – a future where well-being is valued and all our boys feel inspired to be their best selves. Please visit ucc.on.ca/strategicdirections for ongoing information and to share feedback.
I hope you enjoy a restful and relaxing March Break.
With my very best wishes,
