 | | An Overview of the Green School |
| "The Green School initiative is a powerful way to show our boys that shared responsibility for our local and global environment is an urgent matter. As such, it's a wonderfully relevant enhancement to the value of a UCC education". — Dr. Jim Power, Principal |
At Upper Canada College, we pride ourselves on inspiring students to grow up to become men of strong character. We also want to extend this integrity of character to how they treat and interact with their environment. This is why, in 2002, we formed UCC Green School our commitment to transforming UCC into a "Green School for the 21st Century." By inspiring students through our example and a “Learning it by Living it” approach to sustainable development, socially, environmentally, and economically, our boys will be inspired to preserve the planet for their generation as well as generations to come.
We're all noticing our lifestyle habits just a little bit more these days. We're not idling our cars in the College driveways anymore, for instance. We're diligent about putting our compostable lunch scraps in the correct recycling containers. And we've all gotten used to the motion-sensitive lighting, which turns on only when someone enters a room.
Our goal is sustainable development. In short, this means we're dedicated to meeting the needs of current generations without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs. In the process of doing this, we integrate environmental, social equity and economic considerations in our decisions and actions. |
