 | Notice of food recall
9/9/2008 As many Canadians already know, earlier this summer, Maple Leaf Foods recalled products made in its Toronto processing plant, because some products may have been contaminated with Listeria.
At Upper Canada College, our foodservices staff, who are employees contracted through Aramark, removed all Maple Leaf products from our kitchens as soon as the product recall was communicated. However, prior to the August recall, some recalled Maple Leaf products were served in our dining halls during some meals.
Because there is believed to be a period of up to 70 days from the time of consumption until someone might exhibit the signs of Listeriosis (the illness caused by eating food contaminated with the Listeria bacteria), we are sharing this message with our Summer Camp families, recent attendees at two conferences held this summer at UCC, as well as others who may have dined at the College this summer.
We are unaware of anyone who became ill after consuming these products at UCC. However, we are advising anyone who is experiencing any of the symptoms of Listeriosis, to contact their family physician immediately. Those most susceptible to Listeriosis are the elderly, newborns, pregnant women, and those who have a weakened immune system.
For information about Listeria, including a detailed list of Listeriosis symptoms, we suggest visiting: Government of Canada Listeria Information

Members of the UCC Community who have specific questions relating to the food services at UCC should contact Aramark Campus Services, at 416-488-1125, ext. 2340.
At UCC, we remain committed to providing safe and nutritious food to our students and other community members who dine on our campus. |
