Upper Canada College relay teams picked up gold and bronze medals, helping the school to finish third overall out of 270 schools from across the province in the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) swimming championships this week at The Wayne Gretzky Centre in Brantford.
Strong efforts from all members of the large contingent representing UCC resulted in the school finishing second overall in the open division, second overall in the senior division and sixth overall in the junior division.
The highlight of the two-day championship, from a UCC perspective, was a gold medal in the open medley relay for Jon Brodie, Ryan Chiu, Josh Gold and Andrew Williams. This quartet not only won the final, it set a new OFSAA record in the process.
UCC’s other medal was a bronze for Jake Poulton, Matt Newland, Tor Kitching and Seth Zucker in the senior 200-metre freestyle relay, a performance which head coach Vlad Roytberg describes as “gutsy.”
Other UCC swimmers had personal best times and results throughout the competition, resulting in 11 top 10 finishes over a variety of races.
