Upper Canada College Old Boy Patrick Harvey ’11 is one of 17 students from the University of Waterloo’s School of Architecture responsible for creating Planeterreaum, an art installation that will be part of Toronto’s Scotiabank Nuit Blanche festival held from dusk to dawn on Oct. 4.
A hexacopter equipped with five GoPro cameras hovering 100 metres in the air will capture an aerial video feed of downtown Toronto from dusk until dawn. This feed will be projected on to the interior of an eight-metre wide, timber geodesic dome to surround guests with a spherical view of the city. All of this will be accompanied by DJs spinning music inside.
UCC is a gold-level sponsor of Planeterreaum and the school’s logo will be projected on the dome along with those of other sponsors.
“We were approached by Patrick earlier this year to become a sponsor, and we thought it was a great opportunity to support one of our Old Boys and a very exciting artistic endeavour all at once,” says David McBride, UCC’s vice-principal of enrolment management.
Planeterreaum will be set up at Gore Park at 701 Fleet St., just south of Fort York.
