Upper Canada College’s varsity volleyball team fell to Crescent School three games to two, losing 15-12 in the fifth set, in a Nov. 12 qualifying match to move on to Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) competition.
“Every set was closely contested but, in the end, we were unable to sustain the level of consistency needed to get the victory,” said head coach Derek Poon.
The loss ended the team’s drive for a spot in the OFSAA tournament and also closed out the 2014 season.
Season highlights included a terrific win on Association Day, some excellent performances against some of the best high school volleyball teams in Ontario, and reaching the semi-finals in the Conference of Independent Schools Athletic Association playoffs.
The team will lose leaving class seniors Samson Tamrat and co-captains Nestor Grandal and Nathan Tong, but should have a solid base of returning players to build on next year.
