Upper Canada College sent four teams of aspiring mathematicians and programmers to compete in the Educational Computing Organization of Ontario’s “Battle of the Brains” at St. Andrew’s College on April 1.
Twenty-eight teams of four students each from Villanova College, St. Clement’s School, Bayview Glen School, St. Andrew’s College, Crescent School, University of Toronto Schools and Trinity College School joined UCC in vying for a chance to represent the Conference of Independent Schools at the Toronto regional competition at York University on April 25. This year’s question set was difficult and the competition for the top four spots was fierce.
The UCC boys competed hard, but in the end fell short with a sixth place finish. UTS dominated the event, with three teams of grade 12 students making it to the finals.
The UCC participants were: Matt Wang, Simon Osak, Zack Nathan, Alex Kazakov, John Mace, Camran Hansen (Grade 9); Jack Sarick, Emerson Braithwaite, Matt Hwang, Karman Cheema (Grade 10); Andrew Lamb, Alex Roberts, Jacob Beckerman, Emerson Shoichet-Bartus (Grade 11); Nick Elder and Derek Lam (Grade 12).
