Modern fundraising campaigns can often feel more like a marathon than a hundred-metre dash. Yet, thanks to the continued support of community members like Hugh Innes ’72, the Think Ahead Campaign’s pace has only continued to build as it races towards its finish line.
Innes is one of hundreds of Old Boys, parents and other UCC friends who responded to a recent, special appeal from Principal Jim Power asking community members to help put the campaign “over the top” of its $100-million goal (more than $95.13 million has been raised to date.)
“I had never received a solicitation quite like this,” says Innes, who chose to make a new gift after receiving the mailing. “Its straight-forward, direct message really spoke to me. If we all chip in just 10 per cent more, we can bring Think Ahead to a successful conclusion.”
Innes chose to direct his gift to the UCC Foundation’s General Fund – an allocation which has special meaning to him.
“As a former trustee, I like to direct most of my giving to the UCC Foundation,” says Innes. “The foundation’s General Fund is one of the College’s only sources of truly flexible funding – it helps the school address its highest priorities as they come up. That ability to apply my gift to the area of greatest and most urgent need is very important to me.”
