Biography: Tony obtained his undergraduate music degree from the University of Toronto and his master’s degree in Conducting from the University of Calgary. As a proud member of the prestigious Quarter Century club at Upper Canada College, Mr. Gomes is also currently the Co-coordinator of Music.
He is an active adjudicator and honor band conductor across Canada and the United States in addition to his duties as deputy examiner in music with the International Baccalaureate Organization. As an educator, Mr. Gomes has chaired curriculum design committees, toured Asia and Europe with a variety of ensembles in addition to successfully preparing music students for the International Baccalaureate music examinations. As past President of the Ontario Band Association, he has developed the York/OBA Wind Conducting Symposium that has featured decorated educators such as Craig Kirchkoff, Paula Holcomb and Colonel Foley. His conducting experiences include guest-conducting engagements with the Rochester Philharmonic, the Huronia Symphony, and the Northdale Concert Band.
His commitment to the development of wind literature includes performances at the 1999 WASBE conference in California, commissioning projects with composer Gary Kulesha with a work entitled “The Greatness of the New Found Night” for wind ensemble and the development of the Wind Band Project through the Canadian Music Centre. His cd “ Dream Dancer” is on the Naxos label and features all Canadian repertory.

Biography: Music has always been an important part of my life. From teaching private lessons and taking a peer-tutoring course, I fell in love with sharing my knowledge and passion with others. Pursuing a career in teaching was a natural and obvious path. I direct the Concert Band and Junior Jazz Band at the school, and have also led an International Service Trip to Athens & Thessaloniki, Greece. Outside of the College, I enjoy cycling and photography, and am an avid reader.

Biography: I direct UCC’s senior jazz ensemble and the symphonic band. A love of music and the camaraderie of performance have always inspired me. My teaching career was a natural evolution from the private music lessons I gave while working as a professional musician. I led several jazz ensembles, recorded a number of CDs and toured North America and Europe for much of my younger years. I can’t think of anything better than sharing what I learned with the brilliant boys of UCC.
Current Title: Upper School organist and choirmaster

Biography: I play the organ for Upper School assembly, run the Upper School choir (the “Blue Notes”) and teach theory of music. I am also Director of Music at St Clement’s Church, North Toronto, an examiner for the Royal Conservatory and a member of the Tafelmusik Chamber Choir. I’m a keen runner in my spare time and, since relocating to Canada from England, have become a fanatical supporter of Toronto’s sports teams.
