Lang played multiple sports with the UCC Blues and earned the Herbert Mason Award for outstanding character and leadership.
He then headed to Queen’s University for chemical engineering. He also played for the Golden Gaels’ varsity hockey and football teams, and was elected to their Hall of Fame. He was a member of five Grey Cup-winning teams during an illustrious Canadian Football League career (1974 to 1981) with the Edmonton Eskimos.
Lang has contributed vigorously to UCC life. He served on the audit committee and chaired the athletic review committee, which was charged with revamping the athletics curriculum, and served for two years as a volunteer coach with the varsity football team. Going above and beyond as usual, Lang travelled three hours a day, six days a week, from his home in Guelph.
