UCC students think green with Walk to School Day

On Oct. 30, students, faculty and staff were encouraged to be kind to the environment and walk to school. The initiative was started by Sustainability Steward Chris Noh and Head Steward Uche Ochuba, who were at the school’s front entrance ready to cheer on boys who decided to accept the challenge and go green for the day.

Says Noh, “We’re waking up early and taking in some fresh air while commuting to school. Just a month ago, UCC had nearly 200 students walk to the climate strike and passionately protest one of the most pressing crises of our generation. It’s crucial for us to drive that momentum into our daily lives.”

Green efforts don’t stop at Walk to School Day. During this year’s A-Day celebrations, native plants were sold to help preserve local plant life. And Noh encourages students to stay engaged by “keeping in touch with the Board of Steward’s agenda, suggesting new sustainable ideas through the feedback form, or consulting our pledge forum space in the main foyer for some simple ecological practices you can implement for yourself.”
