Film Program | Leading Toronto Boys School Arts

Imagine, Interpret, Create

Shaping the next generation of storytellers

Upper School students learn to analyze and create film through film studies courses with the IB Diploma Programme and the College Film club. Our College Film studio offers cutting-edge recording and editing equipment, as well as screening areas featuring an extensive film catalogue.

Students evolve into versatile creators through:

  • Cinematic language: Students learn to deconstruct visual narratives and develop critical perspectives on international cinema.
  • Technical expertise: Hands-on projects guide students through the production pipeline.

Places to Showcase

UCC’s Year 12 film course collaborates with other Toronto-area independent schools on festivals and screenings that bring students’ compelling and innovative work in short film to wider audiences, including at the University of Toronto and TIFF Lightbox theatre.

When our students showcase their work at venues such as TIFF Lightbox, it’s great for them to see their work on the big screen and to witness people’s reactions to it.

Innovation Beyond the Curriculum

UCC’s long-standing tradition in filmmaking is furthered by the College Film club, dedicated to experimental media and creative risk-taking. Whether pursuing film as a core academic subject or as a co-curricular passion, students are amplified as storytellers, gaining the self-assurance and experience necessary for future careers in the global creative industries.

I had always been into the arts, but it was at UCC that I honed in on film as the best way to express myself. Once I graduated, Old Boys working in the field became mentors, colleagues, clients and even business partners. UCC became a launchpad for my career as a filmmaker.
