Curiosity, Iteration, Reflection |
UCC students are equipped with the technological tools, creative approaches and entrepreneurial spirit required to seek solutions to real-world issues
Courses and co-curriculars combine skills-building in research, prototype development and execution, and help boys become practical problem-solvers.
Design at UCC begins at the Prep School and introduces students to three streams:
- Digital media design
- Programming
- Innovative Product Design
The crucial first step in design thinking is empathizing with the people who will be using the product or service. Design thinking also encourages reflection, resilience and a high comfort level with ambiguity — positive behaviours that can be transferred to all subjects and encourage cross-disciplinary projects, especially among students of diverse ages and talents.

Boys find inspiration and acquire lifelong skills in purpose-built, cutting-edge spaces across campus:
- The Brenda & Reid Chen Innovation Lab at the Prep School is designed for JK to Year 5 students and features a robotics area, a LEGO® wall, digital media lab and fabrication studio.
- The Prep’s Hixon Family Design Lab provides an inspiring, flexible and safe environment where design programming and initiatives can flourish.
- The Holmes Project Lab at the Prep was made for collaboration, with small-group stations that allow for idea-sharing and iteration.
- The Atkins Family Design Lab at the Upper School is a discovery zone with stations for both individual and team-centred work, presentation zones, and adaptable spaces to accommodate a range of materials and supplies.
- The Du Family Design Lab and The Morgenstern Family Fabrication Lab at the Upper School are side-by-side innovation hubs with optimal tools to help students pursue projects that grapple with the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
- The Upper School’s film editing labs are equipped with the latest hardware and software.
