IB Primary Years Programme | Toronto All-Boys School

Students’ First Building Block

In the PYP, boys develop into caring, active participants in their lifelong learning journeys

The PYP focuses on students’ academic, social, physical, emotional and cultural needs. It also recognizes young learners’ natural curiosity and channels it towards their own discoveries.

Students are challenged to think for themselves as they connect their curricular learning to the world around them. They acquire the knowledge, concepts and skills of traditional subject areas while learning about local perspectives and global ideas.

At its heart, the PYP is a commitment to “structured inquiry” as a vehicle for learning.

The Primary Years Programme concludes in Year 5 with the PYP Exhibition, where small student groups tackle big problems and take action in the service of finding solutions.

Students choose and research a cause, and complete an action towards affecting change. They might delve into issues such as cyberbullying, climate change or reducing food waste. After months of research and preparation, the boys showcase their knowledge to classmates, teachers and families. It’s a celebratory day where all of the hard work comes together.
