UCC would like you to meet the young student-athletes who are already making a difference to their school, to the teams they play for and to the peers they inspire.
You’ll notice as you read their profiles that they’re accomplished in all they set out to do. As the Lang Scholars Program unfolds, so will these student-athletes’ accomplishments. Keep an eye on them. They’re going places.
PJ is captain of varsity soccer, co-heads the improv club, and has a senior role on the varsity hockey and badminton teams. He’s also a Horizons tutor. This year PJ is spearheading the launch of UCC’s current events club. Outside of school, PJ is a longstanding member of the Power FC soccer academy and the GTHL AAA team, and he’s a community-based trainer for younger soccer and hockey players.
Henry is on the executive board of the Model UN club and the leadership committee of the peer tutoring club. He’s the co-captain of the varsity cross country and track teams. Henry is also a Horizons tutor and he plays with the senior jazz band. Outside of UCC he’s a member of the University of Toronto track club, and as a volunteer with the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Henry will be helping with a clinical research project.
James is varsity swim captain, last year winning various medals and breaking school records in the junior 50 meter backstroke and the junior 200 meter medley relay. He’s also a member of the varsity tennis team, and plays in provincial-level tournaments outside of school. James is lead flute in the senior wind ensemble, and plays the flute and alto sax in the senior jazz band. He does math tutoring for Horizons and is a member of the engineering society.
Jeremy is a member of varsity cross country and hockey. He also belongs to the North York Knights Minor Midget AA hockey team, number-one-ranked in the province and GTHL city champions in 2016-17. This year Jeremy has founded and is co-heading UCC’s marketing club. He also works with children with disabilities at Camp Towhee. He’s considering a post-secondary degree in business and law.
Brennan is co-captain of the varsity baseball team and he also plays varsity football. He volunteers with Horizons as a lacrosse tutor, and helps coach the Y8 football program. Brennan is a member of the investment and marketing clubs. For the past seven years, Brennan has played for the Willowdale Blackhawks “A” hockey team. He’s also played for the Ontario Blue Jays and the Toronto Mets, two of Canada’s top amateur baseball programs.
Dylan plays on the varsity volleyball and track and field teams. Previously, he rowed for three years. Outside of UCC, as a member of the Venom Volleyball club, Dylan and his team came second this year in the Tier 2 Nationals. Dylan’s favourite subjects are biology and chemistry, and he’s a Horizons tutor. Dylan is planning to go into the field of medicine.
Rupert is the arts captain and his favourite Higher Level subjects are film and music. He’s a member of College Film and the music production club. Rupert is also co-captain of the varsity rowing team. Last year Rupert won a music production remix contest hosted by his favourite artist, Zeds Dead, earning a performance slot at their electronic concert for New Year’s in Chicago.
Calvin is a member of the varsity football, basketball, and track and field teams. He’s a Blue Army general and a Seaton’s prefect. His favourite subject is Higher Level European history, and he enjoys exploring the nature Toronto has to offer. Calvin is also a member of UCC’s Unicef club. After graduation, he hopes to study law.
Will is co-captain of the varsity cross country and track teams. In 2016, he helped lead the cross country team to 20 OFSAA qualifications, the most in UCC’s history. He serves as a mentor to the Prep running team and is a member of the University of Toronto track club. Will is also a Scadding’s prefect and Horizons tutor, and he heads the Quiddity literary journal and the Bio Run club.
Elliott is head of Wedd’s and co-captain of both the varsity volleyball and varsity rugby teams. He’s also captain of varsity hockey and a member of the improv club. As a senior session leader in boarding, Elliott helps lead peer-to-peer meetings to discuss topics like dealing with stress and homesickness. Elliott is also a Horizons math tutor and a student ambassador. Outside of school he volunteers at Toronto East General Hospital.
Wedd’s House Prefect Tristan is a student ambassador and a member of the Boarding Leadership Community. His favourite subjects are math and physics. He’s a member of the varsity hockey and track and field teams, and he heads up the world languages club. Tristan is also a peer tutor. His hobbies outside of school include sports, music and travelling.
Christopher is co-captain of the varsity rowing team and an Orr’s prefect. He’s also a member of College Film and the entrepreneurial club, and he tutors with Horizons. His favourite subjects are economics and math. During the summers, Christopher volunteers at the CNIB camp and runs his own business, Windwood.
