Music

Final products and performances often get the spotlight. The root of our mission, however, is to unlock the creative potential of each student through the discovery of the artistic process. This ignites a lifelong love of the arts.
— Monika Kastelic and Paul McGarr, Co-coordinators, Music Department, Preparatory School

Creative potential unlocked

At UCC, we believe that music can be a path to overall creativity and wellbeing.
Our music departments seek to inspire students to explore their full musical interests through curricular and co-curricular experiences. We believe that diversity of exposure to various musical cultures and the music industry helps our boys engage in all aspects of their creative potential.

Throughout their time at UCC, students have the opportunity to be involved in various performing groups that promote various music styles such as jazz, classical and popular music. Through participation in jazz ensembles, concert bands, string ensembles and choirs, our boys perform at school concerts, performance festivals and international competitions.

Performance skills are the fundamental focus of the music program but students also enhance their creative abilities through traditional and electronic compositions, developing recording-studio techniques using recording and sequencing software.
