The U16 badminton team competed at CISAA’s on Wednesday, May 22
In their first match, UCC beat CDS 3-2. Fergus Webb was able to win his match decisively, clinching the victory for UCC.
In our second match, we came up against a strong Crescent school. Second Doubles Nick Reszetnik and Eric An won, and the First Doubles team of Ryan Qin and Josh Dyer recovered their form to avenge an earlier regular season loss.
The third match, against Bayview Glen, was carried by victories by Fergus, Ryan and Josh, as well as Nick and Eric. Jason narrowly loss in a long, 3 game match.
Andrew Ko was the star of our fourth match against TCS, coming from behind to win his third singles match 2 games to 1.
In our final match, against St. Mikes, the boys played well despite it being their fifth match of the day. Once again the match came down to Andrew Ko’s third singles match, where despite taking it to the third set, he fell short.
Overall, at CISAA’s we won 3 games and lost 2. We started the day ranked 7th, and ended up placing in a tie for 5th position. The boys played very well, and got better as the day progressed. Both losses were close with scores of 3-2. There were a number of great performances: Jason Lee played against some of the best players in the tournament in first singles; Fergus Webb challenged his rivals with a strong smash and long reach; Andrew Ko had a come from behind victory to keep us in the tournament; Ryan Qin and Josh Dyer displayed great teamwork, athleticism, and were highly analytical in studying their opponents; finally, Nick Reszetnik and Eric An finished the day undefeated – in fact, they didn’t lose a match in a school game the entire season. Congratulations on a great season.
