U16A soccer kicks off the season on a solid note vs AC

Game Photos

On a sunny Wednesday afternoon, UCC took on AC in a rematch from a few weeks ago at Appleby.  In our first regular season match, UCC was poised to start of this season on a positive note.  The game started with much of the possession in Appleby’s end with a number of shots fired at the opposing net.  Appleby’s goalie stood tall and kept the score 0-0.  Then on a beautiful build up play from the left wing, Marshall Wong sent in a cross through the 6 yard box to Harris Dickinson who put it away to make it 1-0.  Quickly thereafter, Will Rees took a through ball and staved off the defender to slot it in to make it 2-0.  Appleby mustered up some counter attacks and a poor clearance by the UCC defence left the AC forward free to shoot and on the first shot of the game, he put it in to cut the lead to 2-1.  Had it not been for the crossbar, the score would have been 2-2 heading into the half.

The second half started much like the first and AC almost tied it up on another free kick but a key save by Sebastian Jones kept the score at bay.  About 10 minutes into the half, on a quick passing play, Will Rees hit the ball of the post and Harris Dickinson was there to put in the rebound to make it 3-1.  Numerous scoring chances led to more goals by Marshall Wong, Arbaaz Ebrahim and Will Rees to end off the game with a 7-2 scoreline.

Great second half effort by all the boys.  Next up on A-Day another tough opponent in DLS.

Thanks to all parents for their support.  Be sure to come out and show your support on A-Day.
