The Varisty football team went on the road to TCS and came home with an impressive 30-7 victory.
The UCC Varsity Football team opened up their regular season on the road against the Trinity College School Bears. The game was the marquee event of TCS’s Bear-Fair, Trinity’s homecoming event.

Defense was the name of the game during the first quarter with both teams coming up with impressive stops. The Blues broke through late in the first with a four-yard touchdown pass. The score was set up by a fumble recovery by the UCC defense that was returned down to the Bears goal-line. After forcing a two-and-out, the road team continued the offensive pressure scoring a 46-yard touchdown to open the second quarter and extend their lead to 14-0. Both sides of the ball were clicking for UCC as they took a 23-0 lead into the half, capped off with a 33-yard field goal late in the second quarter.

The Bears made a push in the third quarter to get back into the game. After forcing a two-and-out deep in the Blue’s territory the Bears were able to get possession on the one yard-line. A bad snap forced the Blues’ punter to scramble around trying to make a play but the TCS defense was able to rally around the make a tackle deep in UCC territory, a penalty on the Blues compounded these mistakes and the Bears made them pay scoring from one yard out on the next play to cut the lead to 23-7.

On the Blues next possession, they were able to respond, marching down the field on a seven-play drive capped off by a 25-yard touchdown pass to regain their advantage. UCC rode some strong defense and methodical offensive drives to kill the time remaining on the clock and leave Port Hope with a 30-7 season-opening victory on the road.
