U16 Blues Hold On To Defeat Determined SAC "White"

Mark Hoel & Jon Choptiany
Team Captain Eddie Moskowitz gave the team a big boost with a 4-point performance in the 4-2 win.
With most of our players returning from GTHL duty and injury, the Blues were excited to play perennial rival Saint Andrew's College on the big ice at UCC. The game did not disappoint, with many tense moments and amazing plays. Eventually, UCC was able to outlast SAC 4-2 and clinch 2nd place in the league. Well done to the team as this position in the standings has secured a home playoff data in the semi-finals.

The Blues came out flying in the first period, with Captain and leading offensive threat Edward Moskowitz scoring from the slot on just the 3rd shot of the game. The game settled down from there, but UCC continued to control the play and finished the period with a 'seeing eye goal' from the point off the stick of dominant defenceman, Cam Scott. The shot tally after 1 was 10-3 UCC and the Blues lead 2-0 on the scoreboard.

The second period was a completely different story. SAC played the Blues hard and killed a number of power plays. UCC captain Eddie Moskowitz cannot be contained for long however, and he deftly placed a beautiful pass on the stick of Noah "The Tank" Varga in the slot, who made no mistake, going top shelf with little room for error. 3-0 Blues. To their credit, SAC did not quit and continued to battle, scoring a desperation goal from the slot with only 18 seconds left in the second stanza. Shot tally for the 2nd period was 11-10 Blues and the score was 3-1 at intermission.

The 3rd period was started with a bang, with SAC scoring on their first shift (14:41). 3-2 Blues! We were now in a game! At this point the hitting ticked up with big collisions all over the ice, including some notable body checks by Tank Varga. Shot suppression and tight checking reined for most of the period until SAC broke through with a great chance. UCC goalie Dylan Meanchos denied it with a 'game saving' stop to preserve the lead and give the boys on the bench a lift. Finally, the Blues' star forward Moskowitz would not be contained any longer and went coast to coast and scored on a backhander to put the game out of reach.

The coaches would like to thank the boys for their effort and look forward to our final league game on Monday, which takes place at home against TCS at 4:00pm.

Go Blues!
