The boys were looking to put behind them their lopsided defeat last week and came out hard in the first 10 minutes.  Powerful runs by Man of the Match Pier-Olivier Lefebvre and Connor McKinney had the Cowboys back on their heels and one had the impression that it was only a matter of time before the Blues were rewarded for their aggression.

That reward came through a Simon Ofiara try, eight minutes into the game, ducking under and weaving through defenders on his way to dot down .  The try was assisted by Jack Tucker.  Klilian Fortier had the conversion.

Alex Hickman controlled the play well from Fly-Half and was aided by great line speed and good tackling from his pack – Samar Carmack, Alex Munoz and Andrew Downing in particular.  Unfortunately, a momentary lapse in concentration in the backs meant that Medway was able to tie it up before the half.

Heading into the half tied 7-7, the Blues came out timid and the line speed that was a fixture of their early success began to wane. Medway scored two tries after breaks from their fly-half before UCC was able to respond.

The response came on the back of an impressive Jesse Zhao run, followed by a Darius Mani rumble before Theo Heintzman latched onto a Simon Ofiara offload to score on the last play of the game – Medway 17, UCC 12.

The first game of the CISAA season will be Wednesday, April 17 at Crescent.  We hope the see you there.
