Blues Bounce Back with Big Win Against Belmont Hill

Unfortunately, the live feed for this game was not working so we had to rely on a few short comments by coaches (as they prepare for tonight's game against Choate) to write this story.
The game was lightning fast featuring some outstanding play by one of the Blues top lines of Page, Goulet and Dumas. They ended up scoring all four of the Blues goals with Will Page scoring the winner.
With the speed of the game and the referees' dislike of the colour Blue, the Blues ended up in the box five times throughout the game while Belmont Hill never had to open their penalty box door. Needless to say, this put the pressure on the Blues defenders and Joe Howe their 6'3" wall between the pipes.
Despite being outshot 35 - 15 with the bulk of the opponents' shots coming on the pp the Blues came out on top with a gutsy performance with a 4-3 win.
Tonight at 9:30 pm the Blues will face Choate Rosemary Hall who beat Belmont Hill in their first game 3-2 in OT. It should prove to be an exciting and very meaningful game. The Blues will need a win against Choate to move through to the final. For those wanting to watch the game, it is available on Livestream: https://locallive.tv/lawrencevilleschool
The game vs. Choate began at 9:30 pm and looked to be a tough battle right off the opening faceoff. Both teams played with speed and physicality. At the 10:00-minute mark Choate won a face off in the UCC end the Choate winger came around the top of the circle and found the top right corner over top of Joe Howe's glove for a 1-0 lead. By midway through the first, the shots were definitely slanted in Choate's favour. Just as the game appeared it might get away from the Blues, Nicholas Payer got off a hard shot from the point that made it's way through traffic and found the back of the net to tie things up at ones. Reenergized the Blues Josh Chan almost cashed in two minutes later as the puck slide by the back door and then takes a big hit in the corner trying to retrieve the puck. Just fifteen seconds later UCC is called for a penalty. One minute later it appears the referees will even up the call with a penalty to Choate but after some confusion, the call goes against UCC again and the Blues are down 5 on 3. The Blues PK is excellent and at the 2:15 mark Marc-Antoine Goulet streaks down the right side and is pulled down finally drawing a Choate penalty. After a short period of 4 on 4, the Blues start their first power play of the game only to be assessed another penalty with 40 seconds to play in the period. Shots after the first 7 for Choate and 5 for UCC. It is clear that this has the makings of a fabulous hockey game if the referees could keep their whistles in their pockets and allow the game to be played.
The Blues start the second flying as Will Page comes down the left side and fires an absolute rocket from the top of the circle picking the top right corner. The Blues are up 2-1. It doesn't stop there as Moore narrowly missed an opportunity at the 9:30 mark. It is clear that the referees are not finished leaving their mark on the game as the Blues are assessed another penalty. On the ensuing PK William Monzione had a speedy forecheck ending in a great hit in the corner that really characterized the tough hard working play of the Blues. UCC continued to press will Dumas narrowly missing a backdoor opportunity. It was so close that there was some confusion as to whether or not the puck went in causing an odd-man rush down the other end that resulted in a UCC penalty. Shortly into the PK, UCC gets called for another to go down 5 on 3. This is their second 5 on 3 of the game (difficult to imagine as the penalties are only 1:30 long). UCC killed this one off with Joe Howe standing tall. Shots after 2 were 13 - 9 Choate - really a credit to the Blues defence given the number of PKs.
Moving into the third it is clear that coach Beaudoin has his players fired up as they come out flying and register the first five shots on net setting the tone for a fast and physical period. On the other side of the ice, it is clear that the Choate coaching staff has instructed their players to play physical as Choate finishes every hit. Despite Choate playing far more aggressively than the previous two periods, it is UCC that again takes the first penalty of the period after which a Choate player skates past the UCC bench taunting the Blues players - missed by the officials. Once again, the Blues goalie Joe Howe stands tall to keep the Blues in the game. The Blues fast play does draw a penalty to even things up about halfway through the penalty. In the second half of the second teams trade breakaways but both goalies make saves. Tucker MacIntosh and Anthony Lemieux are both playing their best games of the tournament moving the puck well and playing with controlled physicality. It is at this point that the game stops being played by the players on the ice and is taken over by the officials. In the last four minutes of the game, UCC is called for 6 penalties twice having to try to kill 5 on 3 penalties. Unfortunately for the Blues, Choate scores to tie the game thirteen seconds into the first 5 on 3 at the 3 minute mark. It is at this point that one can really feel the game slipping away as players and coaches are really feeling the frustration. With a 1:52 left 6'5" 220lb Anthony Lemieux battles his man in the corner. Just as he wins the puck the Choate player goes down drawing yet another penalty. Frustration boils over for the Blues as they are assessed a second before the drop of the puck. Effectively, this means that the Blues will be down 5 on 3 for the remainder of the game with a spot in the finals on the line. As would be expected, despite a valiant effort by the defenders and Joe Howe, Choate scores to take the lead and hangs on to win.
