A lead donation of $30M from Edward ’88 and Suzanne Rogers is the largest single gift of its kind in Canadian independent school history. The Rogers’ remarkable commitment, along with other profoundly generous lead gifts, are in service of plans for a 130,000 square-foot building that will be a defining landmark in addition to the existing Rogers Tower at the Upper School. It will include a double gymnasium, 25-metre swimming pool, school-wide gathering spaces, and classrooms and labs for students of various ages and stages that put the emphasis on innovation and leadership development.
“For the first time, the Prep and Upper School will be physically connected,” says Vice-Principal of Advancement Brendan Dellandrea ’01. “And we’ll have spaces that are specifically designed to serve the entire school, where everyone belongs and everyone can be seen.”
“The Rogers Building will be a hub for everything the College holds dear: community, collaboration, athletics, and academic excellence,” says Board Chair Blake Hutcheson ’80. “It will elevate all of those areas, both in the near future, and for the next 100 years.”
Below is a glimpse of some of the building’s many planned features — and what they would mean for students and faculty, as well as the participants in programming like Horizons, the College’s tutoring, mentoring and co-learning partnership with the TDSB, and UCC summer camps.
Rogers Hall
The Rogers Building will connect the campus and the community in powerful and inspiring ways. This includes Rogers Hall: a new, sunlit dining hall that serves healthy local fare to the entire school.

Lang Leadership Lab
As the future home of leadership-building at UCC, the
Lang Leadership Lab will include leadership programming for students at every age and a physical hub with dedicated office space for faculty, and two state-of-the-art classrooms with capacity to host visiting experts as well as teachers from other schools studying the latest evidence-based approaches to leadership development.
Donors: Stu ’70 and Kim Lang
Kenneth Lo Celebration Hall
From science exhibitions and art exhibits to major celebrations, Kenneth Lo Celebration Hall will be a dynamic and welcoming space where the entire school can gather.
Donors: The Lo Family
Green roofs and solar panels
Thanks in part to next-generation green roofs and solar panels, the Rogers Building will operate at carbon net-zero — proof of UCC’s commitment to regeneration and environmental education.
Donors: The Brian and Joannah Lawson Family Foundation
Bernick Hearth
Imbuing the extraordinary architecture with genuine warmth, the Bernick Hearth will be a destination for community connection, collaboration and celebration.
Donors: Howard Bernick ’70 and Judy Bronfman Bernick
Double Gymnasium
The new double gym is an investment in athletes at all levels and will help ensure every Prep student enjoys an hour of physical activity a day.
Pool
An eight-lane, 25-metre, competition-ready pool will make swimming a more accessible part of student life.
We’re in pursuit of bringing this exciting vision to life thanks to this critical lead donor support. And while we’re on our way, the realization of this amazing facility is dependent on site plan approval and additional community contributions.
