The Varsity Blues baseball team hoped to provide an upset yesterday, when they hosted St. Mike's in one of the league semfinal playoffs. The Blues got out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning and the game remained close. St. Mike's held a slim 3-2 lead heading to bat in the 5th inning but UCC could not stop the Kerry Blue offense. Final score St Mike's 8 UCC 2.
It has indeed been a very unusual spring season for the Varsity Baseball team. With only 6 games in total played and 7 games rained out, it was very challenging to get any sort of rythym with the squad. That being said, we are encouraged by the young talent that will conitnue to improve heading into next year. Thank you to all of the seniors who have played with us over the past several years and to co-captains, Nick Papoutsidis and Brennan Lupyrypa.
After 42 years teaching at UCC, Coach Bart Badali will head into a very well-deserved retirement. Bart and I have coached the Varsity Baeeball team together since its inception in 1992. His leadership, coaching ability and friendship will sorely be missed. Thanks Coach!
The Varsity Baseball team finished off their regular season this week, losing 6-2 to SAC and today 13-6 to St. Mike's. The young team fought hard in both games but unfortunately came up short. The Blues will play in the semifinal next Wednesday, May 22nd @ UCC @ 10:00 am.
The Varsity Baseball team went on the road today to play Trinity College School. The Blues jumped out to a quick 3-1 lead only to see TCS score 9 unanswered runs on route to a 10-3 win over UCC. Still lots of work to do as the Blues have two more league games left before the CISAA final four on Wednesday, May 22nd.
The Varsity Baseball team hosted Northern SS on Tuesday in their first game of the season. It was an exhibition game and the Blues came out on top 2-1. Four different pitchers shared the load with Senior starter Nick Papoutsidis pitching three solid innings. The Blues next game is Friday against SAC in their first league game on Senior Day.
