Blues come up short in a heartbreaker.

On a cool but sunny afternoon (perfect game conditions)  the Varsity squad walked down for a visit to League co-leaders SMC. Our Blues only needed a tie to ensure finishing first and retain the League Cup. UCC opened the scoring in the 3rd minute: Luka Chu's precise through pass to Oscar Brown who finished cooly. In the 22nd minute, St. Mike's equalized and then went ahead 7 minutes later.
In the second half, JV call-up Justin Crooks equalized in the 57th minute. In the 70th, PJ Bujouves, from a tight angle, crossed the ball. It hit the woodwork twice but somehow managed to stay out. A minute later, St. Mike's went ahead 3 -2. The Blues rallied and two minutes later, Mark Yatchew equalized. In the 78th minute, St. Mike's were awarded a penalty shot which they converted. The Blues pressed forward but could not equalize a third time and the score finished St. Mike's 4 - UCC 3.
The Blues are now guarenteed to finish second in the league and thus will host a semi-final on Nov. 2nd (time and oppoonent yet to be determined).
Man of the match: Justin Crooks for netting his first "Varsity Goal" and earning his first cap (a toque in this case).
