U12 Blues Fall Short in Semi Finals But Take Third Place
After a successful winning season with an impressive record, the U12 boys headed into the CISAA final with determination and a goal in mind. As the second seed, UCC was matched up against the third seed which was a strong TFS team who also had a stellar regular season. We knew it would be a tough test, and that is exactly what occured. After a relatively even and hard-fought first period, UCC allowed TFS to climb to a 2-0 lead to end the second frame. The coaches' message on the bench was a simple one - we needed to dig deep and get one early to start the third. The boys responded well to that, scoring a big powerplay goal early in the second to make it a 2-1 hockey game. Unfortunately, the top scorer on TFS managed to snap a quick breakaway goal shortly after, making the score 3-1 with about 5 minutes left in the game. The boys knew it would be tough to come back, but that it would take a lot of shots and good bounces to happen. Sadly, despite their efforts in the final period, TFS was able to hold on for a 3-1 win, eliminating UCC from CISAA finals contention and to the bronze medal game. It was a hard fought battle, and one we wish we could start over.
We wanted to end the season on a positive note and capture third place, which we knew was no easy task playing against a well balanced Crescent team that played us well in the regular season. The boys dug deep, held their heads up high, and came out of the gates with speed and tenacity, jumping to an early lead that they managed to hold on to for the duration of the game. The final outcome of the game was 4-2, and we were pleased with their overall effort and willingness to play a team game.
Although we fell short of our ultimate goal, the boys had a positive season and learned a lot of lessons along the way. The coaches would like to thank the players for their contribution to the team, and the parents for their ongoing support.
