  • Bill Elgie

    Bill Elgie

    Director, Norval
My favourite memories of being a Prep student in the 1970s were our trips to Norval. I was a city kid who felt most at home in nature. It has been a dream come true to work at Norval for over 20 years, and to raise my children with Norval as their backyard. When not at work, you can usually find me with my family out wilderness canoe tripping, hiking , cycling or camping.
  • Joanne Hogan

Upper School English and humanities teacher
I spent a number of years living and teaching in international schools in Honduras, Dubai and Germany. I’ve been to over 40 countries and am often asked for my favourites. For a combination of friendly cultures and beautiful landscapes, I’d say Guatemala, Kenya and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Travelling is a passion that I love to share with my students, especially when the focus is on service work.
  • Kathryn O'Brien

    Kathryn O'Brien

    Year 4 teacher
I’ve been in a classroom for most of my life, as a student and a teacher. The magical spirit that a group of curious and caring children create helps fuel my own learning. I have published two educational books based on my professional practice. Being active, getting outside, being with my family and friends are essential to the creativity and energy I bring to my teaching.
  • Mark Hoel

    Upper School computer science teacher
I have been interested in maps and art since grade 2 and love using computers as a creative outlet. My first “real” job was at a software firm in California and I have worked in marketing, sales and of course teaching. I have had many great experiences at UCC, including time as a department head, senior house adviser, boarding adviser, coaching hockey, cricket and soccer as well as teaching a variety of subjects.
  • Ryan Archer

    Ryan Archer

Information and Innovation integrator and Upper School design teacher
As a father of two boys, an educator, and a technologist at an all boys school, I have taken a particular interest in the education of boys and how technology plays an important role in their lives. I believe that when used intentionally and appropriately technology enhances the learning process across all disciplines and subjects.
  • Victoria Altomare

    Victoria Altomare

Prep School home form adviser and English teacher
I am so fortunate to be able to interact with the boys in a variety of settings here at UCC. When I am not in the classroom you will find me coaching volleyball, basketball and track and field. I have spent the past seven years representing Canada in beach volleyball. This experience has made me passionate about physical literacy and growth mindset!
